The Great American Mousical
A Musical Love Letter to Broadway
Below the bright lights of Broadway, in the depths of the historic Sovereign Theatre, an acting troupe of mice rehearse their new musical. Filled with singing, dancing, and show biz lore, The Great American Mousical is a sharp and witty tribute to life in the theatre that celebrates the two most glorious words in the English language: musical comedy!
Julie Andrews returns to Goodspeed to direct the brand new musical The Great American Mousical at The Norma Terris Theatre in Chester, Conn.  A stellar team of Broadway luminaries form the creative team for this smart and funny tribute to Broadway musicals, including Zina Goldrich (Music) and Marcy Heisler (Lyrics) who both received Drama Desk Awards for Dear Edwina, Hunter Bell (Book) who was nominated for a Tony Award for [title of show],   Tony Walton (Sets and Costumes) who has received an Oscar, Emmy and 3 Tony Awards, Richard Pilbrow (Lighting) veteran of Broadway and London's West End, along with Christopher Gattelli (Choreographer) who recently won a Tony Award for his thrilling work on the latest Broadway hit Newsies.  It will be the "event of the season" and a show that anyone who enjoys a Broadway musical will love.

John Waters: This Filthy World
7:30 pm
Garde Arts Center in New London
Followed by book-signing
John Waters' one-man show is a "vaudeville" act that celebrates the film career and obsessional tastes of the man who has been giving bad taste a good name for over 40 years with such over-the-top classics as Hairspray, Pink Flamingos and Cry-Baby. (Adult Material) In association with Alliance for Living.
John Waters is a man of many monikers: The Prince of Puke, The Duke of Dirt, The Sultan of Sleaze...  Anyway you put it, John Waters is famed the world over for his trash cinema epics including Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble, Desperate Living, Polyester, Serial Mom, Pecker,  Cecil B. Demented, and A Dirty Shame. Two of his more surprisingly commercial films have been adapted for the stage.  Hairspray, winner of eight Tony Awards and Cry Baby - The Musical nominated for four Tony Awards. In the summer of 2007, Hairspray reinvented itself cinematically as a big-budget Hollywood movie starring John Travolta that became a smash hit worldwide.
This Filthy World is Waters's rapid-fire one-man spoken word "vaudeville" act that celebrates his film career and joyously appalling taste. Updated and expanded from the original film version that enjoyed critical success at the Edinburgh, Toronto and Berlin Film Festivals, the live performance of This Filthy World focuses on Waters's early negative artistic influences, his fascination with true crime, exploitation films, fashion lunacy, the extremes of the art world, Catholicism, sexual deviancy and a love of reading.
