Over 40 Businesses Gear Up for the 15th Food Stroll
(New London, CT) — New London’s annual Fall Food Stroll is Wednesday, October 12th, 5:30pm – 8:30pm. Produced by New London Main Street, this will be the 15th Food Stroll overall and the 8th Fall Stroll. Back by popular demand is the sixth Culinary Excellence Competition with chef instructors from Johnson & Wales as judges.
Chefs from the Historic Waterfront District’s finest eateries will be serving samples of their autumn signature dishes. The Food Stroll is New London’s quintessential event, showcasing all that The District has to offer – a diversity of excellent restaurants, unique shops, many galleries and an outstanding independent music scene. Strollers can look forward to a variety of outstanding samples from the downtown eateries. Samples range from pasta manicotti filled with herb ricotta served with basil pesto or pink vodka sauce from 2Wives Brick Oven Pizza to Dev’s on Bank’s conquistadors – delicate salt cod (baccala) fritters with potatoes topped with a spicy chipotle aioli. East Coast Catering is serving a lemon butternut risotto, while Mambo Bar & Restaurant are offering their popular seafood paella and sweet plantains. Me & Ma’s is serving their specialty of seafood manicotti and across the way the new Tio Rodrigo’s Mexican Grill will be offering mini versions of their burritos. Galleries and specialty shops will also be open - offering treats, raffles and special fall promotions. A total of over forty downtown venues are participating.
Adding to the festive nature of New London’s signature fall event is some of the best performers in New London’s music scene. John Fries & The Heat features Ron Lewis on drums and Pat Perry on bass to make up one of the strongest rhythm sections in the area, laying down grooves reminiscent of the Motown era. Ken Atkins & The Honky Tonk Kind play ”twang music” and when they’re not playing their own originals you can expect to hear plenty of tunes from the likes of Johnny Cash, Johnny Horton, George Jones, Ernest Tubbs and more. Sue Menhart Band released their debut album "Gypsy Soul" in 2009 and it brought international press, awards and many performance opportunities. Indie-Music.com awarded them a "Top 25 of 2010" for excellence and achievement in independent music. They were awarded "Best Americana Performance" at the inaugural Whalie Awards in New London along with nominations for Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Americana Band.
